In early March 2007, Chadderton Court ‘opened It’s doors’ to referrals.
However, for the first 6 months of the project, Chadderton Court staff focused
their attention on developing mainstream community networks, capacity
building, creating structure, through policies and procedures and providing
support, resources and meeting space for socially excluded community groups.
HOW TO ACCESS CHADDERTON COURT
Walk-in
Although
Chadderton Court is not a drop in centre, we do operate a ‘walk in’
policy, whereby, anyone can call in for information on what opportunities
are currently available through Chadderton Court. On a ‘walk in’ basis people
can:
Gain
free access to the internet, in the internet café.
‘sign
up’ for the bi-monthly volunteer ‘fact finding’ days.
Book an
appointment at the fortnightly employment advice sessions.
Book an
appointment with the monthly carers advice sessions.
Attend
the Chadderton Court information open day (first Friday of the month).
Self-refer
People can
refer themselves to Chadderton Court either by telephone or by calling in.
However if someone is wanting to access one of the community groups, they may
well also have to contact the group concerned, to see whether thy are taking
on new members.
All groups that run at Chadderton
Court are independent and are not facilitated by Chadderton Court staff.
As part of the deal for groups to have free access to accommodation and
resources at Chadderton Court, all groups are required to have their own
guidelines. They will also have a contract, which binds them to OMBC policies
and procedures. Unacceptable and/or inappropriate behaviour will be challenged
and dealt with by Chadderton Court staff through the appropriate channels.
Referrals
by social care/health care staff and voluntary sector agencies.
Chadderton Court is a social inclusion resource centre, NOT a day centre.
Therefore what N.H.S. and social care staff can refer clients for is limited.
It is
desirable that prior to making a referral to Chadderton Court, The referring
agent takes the time to find out about what is on offer through Chadderton
Court, by attending the ‘finding out’ Information days, on the first Friday of
every month.
What Clients can be referred for
include the following:
‘Community volunteering’
opportunities, via the bi monthly ‘fact finding’ days.
Independent community groups
(see above)
Information and advice sessions.
One to one computer literacy
sessions (dependent on
available places)
Lifelong Learning educational
courses.
‘One off’ training events and
workshops.
Social enterprise opportunities
(contact staff for details)
‘Connected’ arts projects and
workshops ( contact the
Arts coordinator for details)
Although a client’s interest in
attending Chadderton Court can be expressed over the phone, all referrals by
social care staff should be backed up in writing.
*Note: Things may be subject to change as part of the
ongoing development process.
