Orchard house day hospital

Orchard House is a Community based resource which is part of Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust’s services for Older People..
It provides a service within a friendly and supportive environment to meet the mental health, physical and general needs of the population of Oldham who are over 65 years of age and have functional mental health problems i.e. psychosis, anxiety and/or depression.
These needs are met through the provision of individual and/or group assessment and treatment sessions, according to an individuals needs.
Group sessions take the form of a variety of social, self-help, therapeutic and recreational activities.
Service provision is based upon the mental health Recovery Model and social inclusion. There is a strong emphasis on community integration, and there are partnership and development links with various mainstream agencies to ensure that people who use the service have the opportunity to build links with services or leisure facilities in their own community as they move on from Orchard House.

Referrals

We do not operate a direct referral procedure. All referrals must be made either by a Consultant Psychiatrist, members of the Community Mental Health Team within Mental Health Services for Older People, or ward staff from the in-patient ward.

Social Inclusion

Our comprehensive therapeutic programme incorporates many social activities which take place in the community. Our service users are encouraged to participate in these activities in order that they may have continued support after they are discharged from Orchard House.

On Wednesday mornings we hold a weekly coffee morning at the Albion Club in Royton Precinct. This includes a variety of social activities. This event is open to all our service users regardless of their daily attendance at Orchard House. Carers and members of the public are also warmly invited to join us at these events.

On Thursday afternoons the Albion Club host a social afternoon, with entertainment, which service users are invited to attend as are the public.

We are currently working with the Digging for Health project, looking at healthy eating and growing things, which can be used in home cooking.

We are also developing links with Oldham Leisure services to develop more physical activities including using the Wii.
